Our Experience

Two hikers posing for a photo at the top of Artists Bluff in New Hampshire
Mark and Kristen traveling through New England in fall

Since we met in 2016, our entire relationship has been based on travel. At the time Kristen was living in upstate New York and Mark was living in York, England so we planned many trips across the Atlantic to see one another. Fast forward to 2018 when we quit our scientific careers to start this blog and we lived out of suitcases for the next 6 years seeing as much of the world as possible. Read more about us.

We’re telling you this because in the beginning we purchased a lot of travel items we didn’t need. It’s easy to get sucked into the consumer world, but in truth staying organized and packing like a minimalist is the most comfortable way to enjoy travel. That being said, this gift list includes many items we own with a few luxurious options to help you travel better.

We’ve included links to official Amazon storefronts so all you have to do is click and purchase. Now, let’s find the best travel gift for your adventurer!

Dark blue Anker noise canceling headphones

1. Noise Canceling Headphones

As writers who spend hours a day on our computers, we need to be able to concentrate in any type of environment and that can be a challenge while traveling. But these noise cancelling headphones help us get work done no matter what’s going on around us. Bose has been the gold standard for years, but we love these Anker models because they’re a fraction of the price.

>> BUY: Amazon

Grey pair of wireless headphones

2. Wireless Headphones

In addition to noise cancelling headphones, we also have a smaller pair of wireless headphones. We use these for the gym, on public transport and when we don’t want to draw attention with large headphones. Apple AirPods are extremely popular, but these are a cheaper option with great quality too.

>> BUY: Amazon

Red Iniu portable charger for travel

3. Portable Charger

This thin portable charger is the perfect gift for travelers because it’s extremely lightweight and fast charging. We’ve used multiple power banks over the years, but this is one model we always depend on. It can charge an iPhone up to 100% in about an hour and features a USB-C in/out port.

>> BUY: Amazon

White power cord with surge protector

4. Extension Cord

While an extension cord may seem like a frivolous item, this was one of the best purchases we’ve made as frequent travelers. Our Mac laptop chargers are extremely bulky and we find they often fall out of the wall when using a travel adapter due to the weight. But this extension cord allows us to plug in both laptops and other items without worry. It also gives us flexibility when limited by outlets plus the surge protection helps to safeguard our expensive equipment.

>> BUY: Amazon

Beige electronics organizer to store multiple cords on the go

5. Electronics Organizer

It’s amazing to see how many chargers or cords you need when traveling and this electronics organizer was one of our very first purchases. We like this gift idea for the traveling content creator because it’s both cheap and thoughtful. It’s something they’ll use everyday and this smaller option is good if you only have a few electronics.

>> BUY: Amazon

6. Universal Travel Adapter

Cheap, but oh so effective, the recipient of this travel adapter will be prepared for outlets pretty much anywhere they decided to go. We’ve been using this power adapter for years because it has 4 USB ports so we can typically plug everything in at once. This item is always the first thing we pack and it’s a very useful yet cheap gift idea for any type of traveler.

>> BUY: Amazon

A single apple AirTag for travel

7. Apple AirTag

One of our more recent purchases, an Apple AirTag can help you track items on the Find My app. We always put one in our checked suitcases and carry on backpacks when traveling. It’s fun to watch your luggage make it’s way through the airport with you. We’ve also used it for various other purposes such as on our cat when we moved to North Carolina.

>> BUY: Amazon

Pink mini portable travel fan

8. Portable Mini Fan

If you’re traveler is planning to visit somewhere warm, they might like a portable mini fan. 13. Osprey Backpack

When we first started traveling long term, we used a backpack instead of a suitcase for years.
